PART FIVE: METHODS OF DETERMINING LINEAGE ACCORDING TO THE BOOK RASA’IL FI ‘ILM AL-ANSAB: A CASE STUDY OF THE BA‘ALWI LINEAGE
Part Five from the book Indonesian Scholar Proves The Falsity of The Ba 'Alawi Lineage Connecting to the Prophet Muhammad by KH. Imaduddin Utsman Al-Bantani. This is the English translation of the original version of Ulama Nusantara Menggugat Nasab Palsu: Jawaban KH. Imaduddin Utsman al-Bantani terhadap Buku Hanif Alatas dkk.FOREWORD BY KH IMADUDDIN UTSMAN
By offering praise and adoration to Allah SWT, the author presents this short
book to the readers. This book discusses the methods of lineage verification
(itsbat nasab) found within the book Rasa'il Fi 'Ilm al-Ansab by Syaikh
Al-Hasan bin Haidar al-Hasyimi. In this book, the author provides a
translation and commentary (syarah) regarding the true intent behind the words
of the text's author. Furthermore, the author references the opinions (aqwal)
of scholars that are relevant to this discussion.
The author
believes that the publication of this book is vital regarding the ongoing
discourse on the Ba'alwi lineage, wherein the Ba'alwi community frequently
cites this book Rasa'il, yet their comprehension of it does not align with how
it ought to be understood by jurists (fuqaha) and genealogists. For instance,
they assert that if a lineage has achieved widespread notoriety and fame
(Syuhrah Wa al-istifadlah), then that lineage is authentic (sahih), even if it
remains unconfirmed by dedicated genealogical texts. In reality, jurists and
genealogists have established the foundational rule that Syuhrah wa
al-Istifadlah can only be used as a tool to verify lineage as long as there is
an absence of conflicting evidence (mu'aridl) in the form of witnesses or
primary genealogical texts.
May this book prove beneficial to us
all.
